17 Back Acne Remedies That Work

backacne

Having acne in not just limited to the face, many people also have acne on their back. Back acne, commonly referred as bacne, are caused by overly active sebaceous glands (oil glands).

Unlike face acne, bacne is usually more inflammatory as the pores on your back are larger and produce more oil. When your back’s overactive oil glands (sebaceous glands) get clogged by excessive dead skin cells or sebum (oil), it gives rise to bacteria that cause acne on your back. If you have acne on your face, there is high chance that your back skin is very thick and sebaceous glands there produce more sebum leading to the problem of bacne.

Bacne can be very painful and irritating, preventing you from wearing clothes with open back or carrying backpacks and they can also leave many ugly acne scars on your back. It is highly recommended to start treating them as soon as possible, therefore leaving them less time to cause permanent scaring on your back.
Healing bacne is often a lot more difficult than treating your face acne.

Luckily there are a lot of home remedies you can use to alleviate bacne and in some cases completely rid yourself of this unpleasant condition. Here is a list of 17 natural remedies we recommend:

Exfoliation

Exfoliation will help get rid of dead skin cells from clogged pores on the back. You can use a loofah or a sponge with an attached handle to reach all the inaccessible places on the back. Once you’re done exfoliating, dry your back and apply cream consisting of benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which helps fight bacne.

Avoid Harsh Soap

Reports show that the ideal skin pH level should be maintained at 4.7 to ensure healthy skin. However, using a harsh soap will cause this pH level to rise above 5, causing dryness, scaliness and blemishes. The soap also strips the skin of its natural oils and flares up bacne.
People with bacne should look out for over-the-counter cleansers, which specifically target acne prone skin.

Sea Salt

Add two or three cups of sea salt to your bath water and soak in this water for 20-30 minutes. If you have oily skin do not apply any other thing on your back after getting out of bath, and if your skin tends to get dry, only apply a light moisturizer, keep away from the heavy stuff.

If your acne on back is really bad and there are too many breakouts, repeat this process twice a day otherwise it may not be enough. If your body starts responding to this treatment, you can expect to your bacne breakouts to go away within a week or so.

Epsom Salt

If sea salt solution is too expensive or proves to be ineffective, another remedy you can try is Epson salt. Epsom salt is a common name for magnesium sulfate, a natural mineral compound. Magnesium is good for your skin because it has anti-inflammatory properties and when absorbed by skin, can relief redness, irritation and itchy skin.

In addition it also activates enzymes that help regulate various nutrients vital for the health of skin such as zinc, potassium and vitamin D, plus it helps by flushing out the toxins. The process is same as with sea salt.

Few important things to mention are that you should avoid rubbing Epsom salt directly into your skin and using bath foam or any other soap or chemical in this bath water. Also after this treatment it’s recommended to drink a lot of water.

Apple cider vinegar

Using apple cider vinegar also helps maintain the skins pH balance, thereby fighting bacne. All you have to do is mix one part of apple cider vinegar and one part of filtered water in a spray bottle.
After a shower, spray this vinegar solution on your back and let it dry. You can also do this before bed for faster results. This will lower the skins pH and prevent bacne.

Mint Leaves for Back Acne

Peppermint leaves contain menthol which is a natural analgesic and an anti-inflammatory agent. Not only these properties alleviate your pain and swelling due to acne but can also sooth your itchy skin due to its natural cool composition. Use mortar and pestle to crush the mint. You will get a smooth green paste, rub this paste on bacne affected area and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before washing it off with water.
For optimal results repeat this process 2-3 times a day.

Baking soda

You can also mix together baking soda and water and apply it on your back to kill the bacteria and to regulate healthy oil production by the sebaceous glands. This will also help prevent bacne.

Soothing Aloe Vera for Back Acne

Among the many benefits it offers, aloe vera also has astringent, emollient, antifungal and regenerative properties. This means it can stop fluid discharge by contraction of blood vessels, make skin soft and smooth, eliminate fungal infection and can lead to regrowth of new cells thus healing wounds. All these properties of aloe vera come to usage when you apply it topically on your back to eliminate acne.

Apply aloe vera gel on affected areas and you will feel relief almost immediately. It’s recommended repeating this 3-4 times a day.

Lavender Oil for Back Acne

Like many other natural ingredients used for treating back acne, lavender oil has anti-bacteria and anti-inflammatory properties that make it eliminate the bad bacteria causing acne.

There is one more benefit of using this aromatic lavender oil for your bacne cure. It soothes your nerves and make you calm. This helps in efficient hormonal balance within your system. Hormonal imbalance is yet another major cause of acne breakouts.

Try lavender oil to take a bath with other useful ingredients that are also good remedies for back acne.

Go to the Beach

Have your back submerged within the salt water of the beach for about 10 minutes. Sit in the sun for 10-15 minutes. The sun will dry out the pimples.

Do not do this for longer though because if you get burnt, it will make your acne a lot worse. Repeat this process a few times more and you will notice results within the first two days.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the most effective natural remedies for back acne.

It has powerful antibacterial properties and is very effective in fighting acne. Using tea tree oil clears the back acne as effectively as benzoyl peroxide do, but without damaging or burning the skin like benzoyl peroxide.

Add few drops of tea tree oil to some water, and wash the affected area with it. Or you can add few drops in your regular cleanser to wash your back acne. You can use tea tree oil on the skin twice or thrice a day.

Lemon Juice

Since the skin on your back is not as sensitive as the skin on your face, lemon juice may be a good home remedy for removing unsightly acne scars from your back.

Toothpaste
