Here is a discovery that will make the day of all you tequila lovers out there: Based on the results from a recent study, tequila can help you lose weight!
Yup, you heard it right: TEQUILA CAN HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS.
But it doesn’t end there, tequila can help you not only lose weight, but it can also lower your blood sugar levels. For people suffering from type-2 diabetes these are excellent news.
The study was conducted by American Chemical Society, and the results were quite surprising. So how exactly does tequila help with weight loss?
In an experiment conducted on mice, agavina, a sugar that comes from the agave plant used to produce tequila, triggered insulin production and lowered blood sugar. Not only that, but in addition agavina helped mice drop some serious weight.
Agavins, unlike sucrose, fructose and glucose, are not absorbed by the body, and do not increase blood glucose.
This does not mean you should start drinking tequila shots with every meal (although I know some of you would like that), however — these agavins are actually a type of fiber that creates a full feeling, ergo suppressing appetite.
Scientists who conducted the study believe that agavins benefits come from the fact that they are light sweetener substitute since, “they are sugars, highly soluble, have a low glycemic index, and a neutral taste, and most important, they are not metabolized by humans.”
Approximately 26 million of Americans are suffering from diabetes, with staggering 2 million new cases diagnosed every year. The true benefits of agavins lie in the fact that there is the potential for developing a different type of sweetener that lowers sugar levels instead of raising them and that is a pretty big deal that can hopefully help many people in the future.
